Esteli, Nicaraguan City baptized with the name of “The Capital of Tobacco ¨. It owes its prestigious appellation to being the only region in all country working on cultivation, processing and manufacturing of tobacco, leaves and hand made cigars and his tradition begins history around early the 60´s century 20. In addition to reviving the economy and inject oxygen, its importance lies not only in the fact that is recognized worldwide for the quality of its cigars made entirely by hand, but because the industry generates locally a total of about 30,000 jobs.

History
•Tabacalera San Rafael was founded by Familia Olivas early 2004, under the Free Trade Commercial Regimen and located in Parque Industrial Los Angeles , km 219 trought Panamerican Highway to the North of Nicaragua .

The Familia Olivas is one of the most nicaraguan prestigious families dedicated 100 % of their time to growing, fermenting and manufactoring , leaves and long filler cigar with more that 25 years of experience.

Farms known as La Reyna, Santa Lucia and Tabacaleras San Jose provides the filler with the quality that the proccecing company PROTALASA annualy needs to provide with the hight estándar qualify long filler tobacco for manufactoring in San Rafael .

General objective:
Increase the production levels units up to 40 thousands units daily with the current quality standards and skilled workforce trained by our expert team of supervisors . In a period not exceeding one year.

The process of cigar making star with blending , follow for the manufacture then packing.

Once the wrapper and filler leaves the warehouse , a moist application is provided. The wrapper move to pilones then after certain period of time to stripping and sorting . The filler includes two activities : leaf preparation and moist extraction/application.

Manufacture includes the following : bunching, mold pressing, draw testing, re-pressing (if any ) , rolling supervising, box pressing (if any) , aging.

Packing , finally after eight weeks eagin , the cigar are ready for the next step. Activities like color sorting , banding, celophaning , box/bundle packing, quality control, sealing, master case packing and freezing for 72 hours , are involved in this process. Then the cigars are ready to be shipped.

Our main market is the United States witch demands close 300 million cigars a year.
Production per year is 10 million sticks.
Production capacity 70 thounsand per day.

Tabacalera San Rafael has been importing tobacco leaves from more than 16 contries and diferents supplier.

The EMPRESAS OLIVAS : Raw material (La Reyna, Santa Lucia and Tabacalera San Jose ), processing (PROTALASA) and manufacturing (SAN RAFAEL ) provides about 3000 employees between direct and indirect in the north of Nicaragua .
